WHAT TO SEE

The Peavine Canyon Trail follows an old jeep trail initially. It has a much gentler gradient than most Toiyabe trails. The trail stays in Peavine Canyon to its head, crosses a pass at 8,634 feet, then gradually descends a drainage to meet the Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail at the Reese River. This trail is useful for access to the Crest Trail and could also be used for a 3-day backpack in a loop with the Toms Canyon Trail, with a short car shuttle or road walk between trailheads. For an overnight backpack trip, the Reese River is a logical destination.
